I decided to fix up an old axe that was my grandfathers that broke on a camping trip. I wanted to make the handle a little smaller so it would be better suited for camping. The handle is made of Cherry wood, I would have liked to use hickory but was unable to get any at a reasonable price here on the west coast. I think it will hold up quite well though and I like the slightly darker wood anyway.
