Plywood is always fun to work with when you can uncover the different layers. The middle one I stole the idea from Phil Young but I wanted to give it a try, I for sure did not do the concept justice but it was fun to try. My favorite is by far the holes/termite looking one. Would love to try these at a much, much larger scale the next time.
This table is made out of three different chunks of three different trees, in all honesty I thought at least two of them were from the same tree but they did not line up at all, but after some sanding and reshaping I was able to make them into one really heavy coffee table, finished off with some bow ties and a coat of resin to fill most of the cracks.
I decided to fix up an old axe that was my grandfathers that broke on a camping trip. I wanted to make the handle a little smaller so it would be better suited for camping. The handle is made of Cherry wood, I would have liked to use hickory but was unable to get any at a reasonable price here on the west coast. I think it will hold up quite well though and I like the slightly darker wood anyway.
I wanted to make some fun alternatives to a wooden chisel hammer. One was turned on a lathe and then a simple round handle with grip carved in. The second was glued and cut and shaped for both the head and handle then the head was burned with a torch to get the dark color. Overall I like how they turned out and they work quite well if I do say so myself.
These stands were initially made for a friends wedding. They wanted some cupcake stands and I love working with tree rounds/slices so I went with that. The legs are just straight branches that I had as old walking sticks. I made some make shift hanger bolts with a little bit of glue and some regular nuts and bolts. Ended up using it as a computer stand after the wedding.
I wanted a “solid piece of wood” desk but that is super expensive so instead I found a large sheet of quarter inch wood veneer and glued that on a large piece of press board and added some 2x4s for structure and then added an edge around with some pine that was stained a lighter color then the main veneer.
